1. Matching Holiday Pajamas

Cozy up in matching holiday pajamas for some festive family fun. Whether you wear them on around your tree on Christmas morning or during a holiday themed movie marathon, this tradition is perfect for capturing adorable family photos. Bonus: It’s also an excuse to stay comfy and cozy all day!

2. A Special Holiday Breakfast

Create a signature breakfast to enjoy every year on Christmas morning. Think cinnamon rolls, holiday-shaped pancakes, or a breakfast casserole that fills your home with delicious aromas. The key is to make it easy and fun so everyone can join in, even the little ones. Our family does a french toast casserole that’s prepared the night before and goes in the oven to bake while we’re opening gifts around the tree (in our matching pjs, of course).

3. Themed Family Movie Nights

Dedicate one evening a week during the holiday season to watching a classic holiday movie. Make it extra special by pairing your movie with themed snacks like popcorn and hot cocoa. Some of my favorite movies include Home Alone, The Grinch, or Elf.

4. Acts of Kindness

Teach your children the joy of giving by creating a tradition of giving back. Volunteer together, adopt a family in need, donate toys, or bake treats for neighbors. It’s a meaningful way to instill gratitude and generosity.

5. Collecting Ornaments

Start a tradition of collecting a new ornament each year. You can DIY ornaments as a family, choose one that reflects a milestone, or simply find one that makes you smile. Over the years, your tree will become a timeline of cherished memories.

As a family we are planning to pick out an ornament for Wyatt each year, we will write him a little note about why we picked it and put it in an ornament box to give to him as a surprise on his first Christmas outside of the house. Also, why did that thought make me so sad?

Make It Yours

The best holiday traditions are the ones that feel authentic to you and your family. You don’t need to overcomplicate it—simple traditions are often the most meaningful.

The important thing is spending time together and creating memories you’ll treasure forever.

It’s also important to remember that you can start traditions at ANY time. It doesn’t have to be a “first” or a “milestone” to make it memorable.

So, grab a holiday mug of cocoa, brainstorm with your family, and start making this holiday season one you won’t forget!
